Indian Army hit by another land scam
A former Army chief allegedly facilitated the sale of Army land to a private builder.

New Delhi: The Defence Ministry has been hit by a fresh land scam which allegedly involves former minister of state for defence production Rao Inderjit Singh and former Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor.

The duo has been accused of facilitating the sale of land belonging to the Army in Mumbai's Kandivali-Malad area to a private builder. The plot was allegedly sold off to a private builder in 2007.

Southern Army Commander Lt Gen Pradeep Khanna, in a report to Army Chief General VK Singh, has alleged that the then MoS Singh and General Deepak Kapoor had intervened to facilitate the "illegal" sale of the plot.

Reacting to the report, the Army chief has indicated that an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation could be recommended into the incident.

Meanwhile, the former minister, in his defence has said that the alleged note was dated November 2007 while the land was sold by the Maharashtra government in June 2007 and possession was given in July 2007.
