BANGA: The 4th edition of Bangalore Nano, an international conference on nanotechnology, is scheduled to be held on December 8 and 9 with a focal theme, ‘Nanoscience and Technology at the Cutting Edge’. The conference will bring together leading names from the field of nanotechnology to address key issues of relevance for the sector.The event is organised by the Dept of IT, BT and S&T, Govt of Karnataka, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research and Vision Group on Nanotechnology, chaired by Prof C N R Rao, an eminent scientist.Speaking to reporters, Prof Rao called the conference as a one-of-its-kind event. “The other forums on nano technology focus mainly on the science behind it but this event brings in the industry as well,” he said.Prof Rao, chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, called the industry as the vehicle to get India to the top. “Nanotechnology has already made way into the chemical, cosmetic and other industries. I can tell you that it will be huge in medical science, for instance in tissue engineering.”He added that the nano industry will rake in trillions in a few years. “Though China believes that nanotechnology will be big in 5 years, it will take a little longer than that. In about 15 years, it will be a big industry,” he opined.Bangalore Nano is likely to be attended by over 450 delegates and the tradeshow will feature 25 exhibitors from across the world. Organisations from 12 countries have confirmed participation in the conference. The focus areas are nano medicine and biotechnology, advanced nano materials, energy and environment, electronics and microsystems.
