Irked deputy mayor to file defamation suit

BANGALORE: Deputy mayor S Harish will file a defamation suit against a managing director of a citybased NGO for accusing him of collecting hafta.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Harish said, "Managing director of Srushti Charitable Trust K T Gurumurthy has alleged that I am collecting hafta from him. He has even alleged that I have assaulted and harassed him. Gurumurthy should have complained against me much earlier, if he was paying hafta to me. But he is doing this after I was elected as deputy mayor. Gurumurthy is claiming to have CCTV clippings, I challenge him to show one clipping which has me in it. If found guilty, I will take political retirement," he challenged.Harish further alleged that the trust run by Gurumurthy does not comply any rules formulated by the Indian Council of Medical Research. He alleged that Gurumurthy is cheating many surrogate mothers. "He offers young women `3 lakh, but ends up giving them 20,000 only. Also, there is no information on parents who get babies through surrogate mothers," he said.
