NK Amin is also an accused in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Vadodara: The special investigation team probing the 2004 encounter killing of Ishrat Jahan and three others on Tuesday interrogated suspended deputy SP NK Amin in the district central jail in Vadodara.

Amin, an accused in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, was posted with the Ahmedabad crime branch then.

He was interrogated for over two hours by the SIT, headed by ADGP Satyapal Singh.

Singh and other members of the SIT declined to comment on the issue.

Amin was shifted to the district jail after he raised apprehensions before the Gujarat High Court of threat to his life while being lodged in Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad along with other accused in the case.

Acting on Amin's plea the high court had last year ordered his transfer to central jail here.

Ishrat, Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were allegedly killed in a police encounter on June 15, 2004.

After the encounter, the city crime branch had claimed that the deceased were LeT terrorists who were on a mission to kill Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

The SIT had last week questioned suspended IPS officer DG Vanzara inside Sabarmati jail in connection with the encounter as he was heading the state ATS at the time of the Ishrat encounter.

Vanzara is one of the prime accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter cases.
