New Delhi: Amin Asmin Tariq, the Jet Airways employee arrested by the British police for his suspected involvement in the terror threat on Thursday, has been suspended by the airline.

According to an official statement issued by the airline on Saturday, the suspension is pending a full investigation.

He is among the 19 suspects whose assets have been ordered to be frozen following his alleged involvement in the plot. A total of 24 suspects were arrested in connection with the the plot.

In a statement, Jet Airways said that Asmin, a British passport holder, was transferred to Jet Airways in March 2006 from G4S, after the airline ended its contract with the agency.

Jet said all G4S employees, including those transferred to Jet Airways, had been cleared by the Department for Transport (UK) to work at the airport.

"Under UK employment legislation, TUPEE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations) was applicable which meant that Jet Airways had to take on those employees who had been employed by G4S prior to the airline bringing the contract in-house in respect of passenger service representatives.

"G4S is a reputable agency which provides services to British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways SAS etc," the statement said.

"All G4S employees, including those who transferred to Jet Airways, had been cleared by the Department for Transport (UK) to work at the airport. Typically, it can take up to 12 weeks for an individual to obtain security clearance to work in Heathrow following references and referees from five different sources," the airline clarified.

Sources told CNN-IBN that Asmin has joined Jet Airways about a year back soon after Jet started its overseas flights from Heathrow to Mumbai and Delhi. He is reported to be working in the security division of the airlines.

In the records of terror suspects released by Bank of England on Friday soon after it froze the bank accounts of all those arrested, Asmin's date of birth is given as 7/06/1983.

On Thursday, London's metropolitan police arrested 24 people in London and West Midlands area thwarting a terrorist plot to blow up several aircraft mid-flight between the United States and Britain using explosives smuggled in hand luggage.

Police arrested a number of people overnight in London after a major covert counter-terrorism operation that had lasted several months. It is believed that the terrorists were intending to use liquid explosives on the aircraft.

Following the disruption of the terror plot, restrictions were put on hand baggage. Only passports and wallets are being allowed on board, and those too in clear plastic bags. The US also put restrictions on carry-on baggage, including liquids, laptops, books and paper.
