The High Court on Monday directed all private Kannada television channels to file fresh affidavit following the court directions stating that they would not cover any premeditated incident without informing police or other law-enforcement agencies.
During the hearing, the counsel representing one of the private Kannada TV channels stated, “It does not have any such rules and even private television channels are not covered under Press Council of India. The petition was filed based on two incidents — one in Ramanagaram about parents attacking teacher for assaulting a student and a couple fighting in the city. Except these, the media has not shown other incident live.”
He further stated that in case of incidents like the recent homestay attack in Mangalore, the police should also have information of such attacks. The Bench further directed private TV channels to file an affidavit and adjourned the case for further hearing.
