Bengaluru: Even as outrage grows over the attack on a Tanzanian woman in Bengaluru, there seems to be some confusion among the Karnataka government and police.
While Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday claimed that the Tanzanian national was not paraded naked by a mob, state DGP Om Prakash told CNN-IBN that the woman was not molested, but stripped.
Bengaluru police commissioner also gave a conflicting version of the incident, calling it a clear case of molestation.
Addressing a press conference, the Karnataka Home Minister backed the police, saying there was no delay or lapse on their part.
"There was no delay or lapse by the police. A case was registered against the errant Sudanese driver and the mob on the day of the incident itself. The students never raised the issue and didn't come to file a complaint till Tuesday," he said.
Ruling out the racial attack angle, the state home minister said, "It is definitely not a racial attack. This is just a response to an accident caused by a Sudanese student, don't think Bangalore or Bangalorean have that kind of a mindset."
In a faux pas during his press conference, the minister named the Tanzanian woman.
When a journalist asked him if he was right in naming her, the Home Minister defended his action saying that it is a fact and he can't hide the facts.
He said, "It is her name. How can I hide the facts? All these things are in her complaint."
This comes even as the Union Home Ministry sought a report from the state government on the incident.
