Mumbai: An alleged active member of underworld don Chhota Rajan's gang was arrested in connection with firing outside the residence of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar in which the latter's bodyguard-cum-driver was killed, police said on Tuesday.
With this, the total number of persons arrested in the case has gone up to seven.
D K Rao, a close aide of Rajan was arrested in connection with the firing incident, after he was extensively questioned on Monday, a senior police officer said.
Rao is likely to be produced before a court later on Tuesday, the official added.
One of the arrested accused, Umed Ul Rehman, had indicated Rao's role in the firing incident during his interrogation, police said.
Two gunmen had fired outside Kaksar's residence on Pakmodia street in south Mumbai on May 17, killing Kaskar's bodyguard-cum-driver Arif Syed Abu Bukha. Kaskar was not present at the site when the incident happened.
Rehman (27), a sharpshooter and active member of Rajan's gang, and his associate Aasid Jaan Mohammed Shaikh (41) were apprehended in Goa on Thursday and subsequently arrested.
Two shooters Syyed Ali (29), a resident of Mumbai, and Indra Khatri (27), had earlier been arrested near J J Hospital while they were trying to escape after the firing.
Two more accused Abdul Rashad Shaikh (21) and Adnan Idaayad Sayyed (21), who had allegedly shown the target - Kaskar's driver Bukha - to the two shooters, were arrested on May 25.
