Kerala: In the wake of Puttingal temple fire tragedy, Thrissur district administration has swung in to action to ensure that the fireworks during the Pooram festival follow the Supreme Court guidelines.
"A meeting has been called where the members of Pooram Coordination Committee and the police commissioner will be present. The main objective of the meeting is to tone down the scale of fireworks during the Pooram festival scheduled on April 15 and April 17," said Thrissur District Collector V Ratheesan.
"We will ensure that the committee members should follow the Supreme Court's guidelines while going ahead with the cracker show. All necessary steps will be taken to avoid such tragedy," he said.
The Thrissur Pooram is celebrated as a grand assembly of gods and goddesses in and around Thrissur. It is considered to be the mother of all Poorams.
Meanwhile, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which manages about 1,255 temples in the state, said it was not for a complete ban on fireworks.
Professor M Kutty, President of the Thiruvambadi Devaswom, one of the organisers of the famous Thrissur Pooram, said, "We will be conducting the festival and observing all legal formalities."
