Kidnapped youth released for Rs. 6 lakh

A diploma student who was kidnapped from Maddur-Malavalli road on Saturday was released after his parents paid a ransom of `6 lakh on Monday.

Sukesh (17), studying in Vidya Vikas Engineering College, Mysore, was kidnapped by a five-member gang when he was on his way to his village Honna Doodi with his father Puttaswamy.

The gang in a Tata Sumo followed their bike and pushed Sukesh into their vehicle.

The kidnappers asked him to pay `6 lakh to get his son released and fled.

Puttaswamy rushed to Maddur police station and lodged a complaint.

Meanwhile, he received phone calls from the kidnappers.

Fearing attack on his son, Puttaswamy managed to mobilise `6 lakh and handed it to the gang near Karigatta hill temple within Srirangapatna police limits on Monday.

Sukesh was released on the Mysore-Bangalore Ring road.

Puttaswamy maintained that the act was committed by unidentified persons.

Mandya SP Kaushalendra Kumar said that the complainant and accused know each other and were involved in a financial dispute, as confirmed by prima facie evidence.

Kumar said that the victim had identified the accused.

Puttaswamy also knew the kidnappers, he added.
