A diploma student who was kidnapped from Maddur-Malavalli road on Saturday was released after his parents paid a ransom of `6 lakh on Monday.
Sukesh (17), studying in Vidya Vikas Engineering College, Mysore, was kidnapped by a five-member gang when he was on his way to his village Honna Doodi with his father Puttaswamy.
The gang in a Tata Sumo followed their bike and pushed Sukesh into their vehicle.
The kidnappers asked him to pay `6 lakh to get his son released and fled.
Puttaswamy rushed to Maddur police station and lodged a complaint.
Meanwhile, he received phone calls from the kidnappers.
Fearing attack on his son, Puttaswamy managed to mobilise `6 lakh and handed it to the gang near Karigatta hill temple within Srirangapatna police limits on Monday.
Sukesh was released on the Mysore-Bangalore Ring road.
Puttaswamy maintained that the act was committed by unidentified persons.
Mandya SP Kaushalendra Kumar said that the complainant and accused know each other and were involved in a financial dispute, as confirmed by prima facie evidence.
Kumar said that the victim had identified the accused.
Puttaswamy also knew the kidnappers, he added.
