The SFI was protesting against the delay in arresting those involved in the murder of the SFI's Idukki district secretary.

Kochi: Six Students Federation of India (SFI) activists were injured after a march organised to the Kanayannur Taluk office turned violent on Friday.

As many as 100 SFI activists took out a march against the delay in arresting the culprits involved in the murder of SFI Idukki district secretary Aneesh Raj. The march was part of the SFI's state-wide protest.

Among the six injured, SFI district joint-secretary Shyam Shankar and Ernakulam area committee member R Rahul are reported to have suffered serious head injuries. They were admitted to the general hospital.

The march took a violent turn when a section of the protesters tried to forcibly remove the police barricade. Following which, the police resorted to lathi charge and used water cannons to disburse the activists. SFI state secretary P Biju, state joint secretary Lijo Jose, district secretary MM Girish and district president Antony John had led the march.

However, the police said that the SFI activists were not injured because of the lathi charge.

They had suffered the injury when they barged into the barricade. The police said that a case had been registered.
