A 32-year-old Kolkata-based photographer was stabbed to death by his live-in partner hours after he shared a “family” photo of him, the woman and her son on his social media account.

The deceased — identified as Sarthak Das — was living with the accused, Sanhati Paul — a professional makeup artist — who was divorced and had a son, an India Today report said.

Das’ had shared several pictures of him and Paul on his social media account with hashtags such as “#betterhalf”, “#loveofmylife, etc. However, the “family” captioned post is not visible on his profile anymore.

Reportedly, the couple had been living in a rented flat for a year and a half. Recently, the two had been having a lot of fights.

In the incident, which took place on Wednesday, Paul allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife, following which she called the police.

Soon after receiving the call, cops reached the couple’s apartment in Dumdum area, situated in Kolkata’s North 24 Parganas. They found Sarthak’s body — with several stab marks — in a blood pool.

Though he was rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him to be dead on arrival, the report added.

Police officials said the woman confessed to murdering Das during interrogation. Though the reason as to why Paul stabbed Das is yet to be ascertained, cops placed her under arrest on charges of murder.

DCP (South Zone) Barrackpore, Anupam Singh told Times of India, “We arrested the woman and seized the murder weapon. She confessed to the crime. She will be produced in a court on Thursday.”

Last year, several such murder cases came to light across the nation. A 56-year-old man named Manoj Sahani had killed his 36-year-old live-in partner — Saraswati Vaidya — in Mumbai’s Mira Road in June, 2023.

He had allegedly killed and chopped her body into “several pieces”, police said, adding that the accused used to “boil body parts in cooker” to ensure there is no foul smell.

Later in August, a 24-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death with a cooker by her lover in Bengaluru’s New Mico Layout on Saturday. The accused, Vaishnav, had doubted the victim of having an affair with someone.

Initial probe had revealed that the victim, Deva, was hit in the head with a cooker three times. The accused had emptied out the rice from the cooker on a plate and then went ahead to hit Deva in the bedroom using that cooker. After suffering several injuries to her head, Deva died on the spot.
