In protest against UDF government’s ‘apathy’ towards fishermen community, the Kerala State Cooperative Federation for Fisheries Development (CITU) is planning to organise a 48-hour agitation in front of Secretariat on November 12.
The federation will also picket Collectorates in various districts on October 30. Hundreds of fishermen are expected to participate in the agitations, KSCFFD leaders told a press conference here on Tuesday.
Among the demands put forward include steps to ensure safety of fishermen, hiking pension to fishermen to Rs 1000, inclusion of all fishermen families in BPL etc.
A vehicle rally will be organised from Anchuthengu to Kasargod as a prelude to the agitation. CPM state secretariat member Baby John will flag off the rally at Anchuthengu on October 13. Pulluvila Stanley, Kuttayi Basheer, P P Chitharanjan, among others, will participate in the rally. KSCFFD general secretary V V Sasidharan and secretary Pulluvila Stanely attended the press conference.
