New Delhi: The gruesome murders of children in Noida by alleged sex fiends have put the Uttar Pradesh government in a spot with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The commission on Tuesday issued notices to the government and Director General of Police and asked them to report within two weeks on the rape and murders near Noida’s Nithari village.
Businessman Moninder Singh Pandher's and his domestic help Satish are under arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting and murdering the children in bungalow D-5, Sector 31, and then dumping the bodies in a drain.
Taking suo motu cognizance, the Commission ordered that the clippings and recording of media reports be sent to the state Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.
At least 38 children of Nithari village have disappeared in the last two years and their parents allege that the UP Police didn’t listen to their complaints.
''If the contents of the reports are true, they reveal gross violation of human rights of the citizens, and in particular the children, because of certain acts of omissions on the part of public servants, who did not take timely action in the matter,'' it said.
''The recent discovery of skeletal remains in the area suggest that more than those registered as missing have been killed,'' they added.
The children’s murders have become a political issue with several parties asking that the Central Bureau of Investigation take over the probe from Uttar Pradesh Police, which has denied that its officials refused to trace missing children.
