Lawrence Bishnoi, currently lodged in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central Jail, is believed to be around 31-years-old and his alleged criminal network is said to span Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. The alleged gangster’s name has been linked to several high-profile murders in the last few years, most notable being the assassinations of singer Sidhu Moose Waala and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.
The transformation of this police constable’s son into a notorious gangster is intriguing. Lawrence Bishnoi alias Balkaran Barar is said to have fallen in love when he was in school. However, unfortunately, this love story met with a tragic end when his girlfriend was reportedly burnt alive by his opponents during a student election in college.
Lawrence Bishnoi’s Early Life
As per reports, Lawrence Bishnoi grew up in a comfortable environment; his father served in the Haryana Police, and the family owned substantial land worth crores. Despite his upbringing, he fell into the world of crime.
News18 Hindi quoted his acquaintances as saying that while attending a convent school in Aboharhe, Lawrence Bishnoi developed a crush on a classmate. The infatuation reportedly blossomed into mutual love when they both enrolled at DAV College in Chandigarh for higher education. Soon, they started to attend the same college together.
Lawrence Bishnoi’s Political Aspirations
During his time at DAV College, Lawrence Bishnoi ventured into student politics, founding the Student Organisation of Punjab University (SOPU). However, his ambitions were thwarted when he lost the student union presidential election to a rival faction. This defeat fuelled his anger, leading him to acquire a revolver and assert his dominance in college politics, says the News18 Hindi report.
Tensions escalated following the college election in 2011, culminating in violent clashes between Lawrence Bishnoi’s group and opponents. In a tragic twist, the rival faction allegedly targeted Lawrence Bishnoi’s girlfriend, reportedly setting her on fire in a brutal attack. Following her death, Lawrence Bishnoi reportedly took revenge on several student leaders.
The gangster was all of five when the infamous blackbuck poaching case involving Bollywood star Salman Khan took place in 1998 during the filming of Hum Saath-Saath Hain in Rajasthan, irking the Bishnoi community which revers the animal.
Twenty-six years down the line, the notorious gangster’s deep resentment against Salman Khan even while in prison continues to make headlines, especially after the gunning down of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique (66), known to be close to the Bollywood actor, by three assailants in Mumbai last week.
Mumbai Police suspect Siddique was killed at the behest of Lawrence Bishnoi after a purported Facebook post surfaced claiming “Jo Salman Khan aur Dawood gang ki help karega apna hisab-kitab laga ke rakhna (whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang, keep your accounts in order)”.
