Licences of cracker units suspended

Special teams inspecting fire cracker units identified several violations of safety norms by the factories during a district-wide raid conducted on Monday. Following this, the licences of the violating factories were suspended by the district administration.

The teams submitted the final report to the Collector Hariharan, after a brief meeting, wherein they discussed the various violations detected by the team. The raids would be on for ten more days.

Following the Om Sakthi Fireworks Factory fire mishap that claimed 38 lives in Mudhalipatti near Sivakasi on September 5, Collector TN Hariharan formed six special teams to inspect the fireworks factories on Saturday. Later, the teams were increased to 11 on Monday. The special teams raided many other factories on Monday in which they found violations and irregularities in the safety norms.

The teams comprised officials from various departments, including Petroleum, Explosives, Revenue, Inspectorate of Factories, Police and Fire and Rescue Department. The officials were directed to conduct only surprise inspections in the factories in future.
