THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: You can make out the shapes of maps of nearly all countries if you travel along the Mulluvila road near the Nila Nagar Residents’ Association (NNRA). The road from Ambalathinkara leading to the side gate of Technopark remains in the most dilapidated condition. This road leading to the National Highway takes you to Technopark in just ten minutes. “The road was last tarred 10 years ago and has been in a terrible condition for the past three years,” says Vijaya S, a homemaker who resides in Nila Nagar. Autos and taxis refuse to ply on this road because of its poor condition. The heavy rains have also added to woes of the residents in this area. Also, the stagnating water in the potholes has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” says Krishnapriya J, a software engineer at SunTec group of companies, Technopark. The area is thickly populated with techies. “If this road is repaired and widened, it can be used to reach Technopark easily, thus reducing the traffic congestion here to a large extent,” says P C Kartha, retired engineer of the University of Kerala and a resident here. NNRA secretary Shibu C says that, “we had raised the issue before the Corporation authorities and the MLA more than ten times, but to no avail.”“Kazhakkoottam was incorporated to the Corporation just nine months ago, so we need more time to understand the real issues. The ongoing contractors’ strike demanding their payment has prevented the government from inviting new tenders,” Deputy Mayor Happykumar told City Express when asked about the issue. The area also lacks proper drainage facility. During the rainy season, water-logging causes a further hurdle to the passengers. Water scarcity, power shortage and stray dog menace also make life miserable for these residents.
