BANGALORE: The sleuths of the Lokayukta, Bangalore, conducted raids on five subregistrars’ office in the city on Friday, following complaints by public.K R Puram, Jayanagar, J P Nagar, Devanahalli and Kengeri offices were raided. At K R Puram office Rs 79,000 excess cash and five middlemen were found, while at Jayanagar office Rs 1,000 was deficit in both EC and franking collections.At J P Nagar office, Rs 500 deficit was found with staff Lokesh and Rs 1,145 deficit in registration fee collection while Rs 49,020 excess cash and nine middlemen were found at Kengeri office. At the Devanahalli office, the Lokayukta sleuths found no irregularities. As huge amount of cash and many middlemen were found at K R Puram and Kengeri offices, action is initiated against the sub-registrars concerned and middlemen under section 7, 8, 13(1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act. However, as only minor irregularities have been found at other offices, the matter would be reported to the Inspector General of Registrar to initiate action. Further investigations are on in this connection
