Panaji: Indian women's volleyball team capped its campaign at the Lusofonia Games by bagging a gold medal as it defeated Mozambique in the final here on Tuesday.
The hosts defeated Mozambique in straight three sets at Dr Shama Prasad Mukherjee stadium near here, where the volleyball event for the games culminated.
The Indian team, tagged as Goa (India), outperformed rivals from the first set itself and won by 25-20, 25-12 and 25-14 in the game that had a full house stadium cheering up for the host team.
Led by Melinda Pereira, the team - especially Terin Anthony, Vengadan Soumya, PV Sheeba, Tiji Raju and Nirmal - played an outstanding game.
For the Mozambique team, led by Elisa Simbine, its players Satira Chongo, Cecilia Samo and Venessa Muianga tried to salvage the game, though unsuccessfully.
This is the third gold medal for the Goa (India) team, the first two being in the men and women's table tennis.
Indian women's volleyball team had defeated Macau in the earlier match, before winning against Mozambique on Tuesday.
