Following Intelligence Bureau inputs about likelihood of increase in terrorist activities around Republic Day, the Sashastra Seema Bal is extensively screening the long and porous Indo-Nepal border with a view to check entry of anti-national elements.
The SSB would also be identifying 'religious places' located on the 1751 km Indo-Nepal border which may have been used by Pakistani Intelligence agencies, like the ISI, for their ulterior motives.
"The terrorist organisations, after training the youths, may send them across the border through Nepal in a bid to create discord in the country", K S Bankhothi, Commandent of the 1st Battalion of SSB told PTI. "Metal detectors have been installed at Sonauli and Tutibari outposts on Indo-Nepal border," Bankhothi said.
Four dog squads trained in detecting narcotics and arms have also been deployed to check infiltration and two close circuit cameras have already been set up at Sonauli, he said. A strict vigil has to be ensured and people, specially youngsters should be allowed entry only after strict checking, he said, adding that any relevant detail be forwarded to the higher officials from time to time.
It is also under consideration to strengthen the intelligence unit of SSB, Bankhothi said, adding it has intensified vigilance on the border to stop infiltration.
