Q: Your first Tamil film 'Padam' then 'Rendavathu Padam', what would be the title of your third film?
A: I would personally like to christen it as 'Flop' and the sequel as 'Utter Flop' for the forthcoming movies, not sure what the producer might have to say. Lets see as it lays in the future.
Q: Don't you feel it gives a negative feel?
A: There are numerous movies bearing positive titles but finally the outcome is nothing short of negative vibes, so title of a movie is just a marketing tool according to me. Title is one of the first things that reaches to the audience for a movie, so as said it's just a marketing USP.
Q: Since you hail form advertising to films, do you see movie as a product?
A: I would surely treat a movie as a product as I myself have been into advertisement for a while. I've been hearing feedback from the audience who have are unable to build notions about the film, the reason can be because of the promotion, trailer and so on. But the reason is suspense and hype we have built up for marketing quotient, making everyone speculate what this movie has to offer.
The movie has also some elements which have never been tried in Tamil Cinema and we are trying to conceal it at least till the first day first show jarring all social networking sites.
Q: Do you think the audience will be engaged in spite of the suspense being revealed in first day first show?
A: Nope, it's not like a usual murder thriller as such, it's more like a beauty to the storyline which is untold in Tamil cinema. If this is something which gets revealed earlier, then it would spoil the beauty of the surprise elements. What started off as a short film, we embarked this journey into a full length movie with international standards without any compromises, a little over our budget, timeline. Some of the reasons can be due to the; standard of the movie, enhanced climax scenes and also the suspense factors. These things led to the delay of making this as a better movie.
Q: About Male glamour in your trailer?
A: Well, a bunch of bachelors, freaky dudes what else to expect them after drinking! Its just a way to show how close chums they are, nothing planned as such for glamor.
Q: About your characters?
A: Story revolves around three working bachelors , who are also room mates in Triplicane mansion. Richard is a medical Rep, Arvind works in a grocery shop and Vimal works in a TV channel which is hardly tele-casted anywhere and he is jack of everything for that channel.
Q: Casting for the movie?
A: Richard is my childhood friend and wanted to cast him for long. Vimal is perfect for the character and the usual urban sketch for Vimal's casting is always a questionable, however its best to see the movie for better understanding.
Q: Vijayalakshmi's role?
A: Initially she was planned for another role, as Ramya's role was that of a conservative and typical Tamil girl. However later we decided and auditioned her for a corporate and stylish character. Her role in this movie is quite important, not just bordering to the glamour quotient and adding importance to the story.
Q: The title of the songs are different, is it intentional?
A: We didn't actually plan them to be different, however it just flowed as such. For instance 'Roja poo' being a Raja sir kind of music in 80's, in Aapu b'day the song is a pub and gana driven song.
'Kupa Thoti' is a song with MJ reference and rhythms. The contrast will be evident in movie with varied visuals for the songs as well, so a fresh experience in both music and lyrics department.
Na Muthukumar is full of amazing talent, and he just delivers what you feel with extraordinary work.
Madan is a college student ranting his feelings and wonderful in his own way. The happiest thing is that we are receiving rave reviews on lyrics and music with only a day since the audio launch, which is encouraging.
Q: About the lyrics in 'Kupai Toti' song?
A: Something which none will understand, as my requirement was something different and not understandable. Hence, Madan made references of Chalkboard, Kupai thoti', Michael Jackson and so on. Looking it as a whole it has come out well.
Q: Can we see CS Amudhan making an offbeat movie?
A: My movies are offbeat if you ask me, and I just don't plan it consciously. I do have plans to make upcoming movies with serious storylines.
Q: About doing movies with Mass heroes?
A: I would love to cast bigger heroes just like anyone else; hopefully it should work in the future.
Q: Do you fix the audiences before doing the script?
A: I don't really get much into audience obsession, as it might curb the creativity. I just go on instinct and hopefully that works well for the flow of the movie.
Q: When do you plan to release the movie?
A: In terms of shooting I should be wrapping up in 10 days, we estimate the movie to hit the screens within a month and half.
Q: Is there any clue for suspense element in the trailer?
A: There are clues and a lot of information when the trailer is watched with keen interest. Some bit of the suspense element and a rough idea can be ascertained from the trailer.
