Man goes missing in Periyar

PERUMBAVOOR: A man went missing in the Periyar near Paniyeli Poru, within the Kuruppumpady police station limits on Thursday. The man, identified as Johnson Mathew, 26, of Thodupuzha, was part of a 33-member team that had come to the spot on a picnic. The Kuruppumpady police said that the man was washed away by strong currents while bathing in the river. As the heavy rain on Thursday thwarted the search efforts, the police have sought the help of the Navy to find Johnson. The police said that the search would resume on Friday morning. The Kuruppumpady police have filed a man-missing case.
