BHUBANESWAR: A man, in his early 30s, was found murdered along the busy Janpath, near Satya Nagar crematorium premises, early on Monday.He was stabbed twice and suffered other injuries on his body. The murder came to light in the morning when a municipal sweeper spotted the body. Blood stains were found at the crime scene and there were signs of struggle. One person has been detained by the police.Kharavela Nagar Police found a briefcase which contained several pairs of clothes, a mobile phone and a bunch of keys. The wallet too was found near the spot but it had no cash. The briefcase was open and the clothes were found scattered which indicated that the killer (s) had tried to search the deceased’s belongings.Preliminary investigation indicates at robbery to be the cause behind the murder. The deceased was seen in the area for about last 10 days. Locals and shopkeepers too corroborated the fact. During the nights, he would sleep on the pavements with his briefcase.“We suspect that he may have been attacked while resisting an attempt of robbery,” said an investigator. Role of drug peddlers and addicts has also come under scanner after the incident since the murder appeared to have taken place during a loot attempt. While the initial investigation process was hampered by lack of identity, police managed to ascertain it by the evening. Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh said, the deceased has been identified as Nira Nahak, a resident of Purushottampur in Ganjam district. His family too had been located.Nahak had been away from his family for sometime. What he was doing in Bhubaneswar was not known.While no one has been arrested, basing on call records of Nira’s cellphone, police have detained a person and are quizzing him. In fact, police also found that some of his kin may well be staying in Madhya Pradesh since his mobile phone had contact numbers of the state.
