Beijing: A mentally unstable man stabbed eight children to death and injured five others at a primary school in east China on Tuesday, authorities said.
Police have arrested the man identified as Zheng Minsheng, a former community doctor, spokesman of Fujian province, Huang Zhongping, said.
Zheng, 42, was said to have a history of mental health problems, the spokesman said.
The attack occurred at 7:20 a.m. at the Nanping Experimental Primary School, when the students entered the school, Xinhua reported.
"My mind went blank when my son's teacher called me, saying he had been stabbed. Doctors said my son is still in a critical condition. I hope he recovers soon," said mother of 12-year-old Liu Luyi, one of the injured being treated in the intensive care unit of the Nanping People's Hospital.
