MALKANGIRI: Maoists allegedly killed the headman of Bhubanpalli village under Motu police limits in the district on the first day of the two-day bandh on Wednesday. The 55-year-old, Rama Kunj was found dead with his throat slit. SP Anirudha Singh, however, denied involvement of Maoists in the killing. He was reportedly killed over some family dispute. The SP said they were awaiting details. Meanwhile, life came to a standstill in many parts of the district owing to the Maoist bandh. The vehicular traffic on the Malkangiri-Jeypore, Malkangiri-Kalimela-Motu, Kalimela-Podia, Kalimela-Bhejangwada, Balimela-Chitrakonda routes was thrown out of gear.Though there was no obstruction on the state highway between Malkangiri and Jeypore following deployment of Border Security Force near Kasighat, people still skipped the route fearing trouble. The rebels had blocked the Sikhpalli-Podia and Kalimela-Bhejangwada roads by felling trees. Business establishments downed shutters apprehending untoward incidents.
