Mayor M Majid Hussain expressed his displeasure with the functioning of superintending engineers for not responding properly in spite of specific instructions given earlier for completion of road works especially filling of potholes within 10 days.
He directed zonal commissioners to call for explanations from them for the delay by the next Standing Committee meeting.
During the Standing Committee meeting held here Thursday, the mayor enquired about the details of the works pertaining to all the zones which have already been sanctioned by the commissioner and zonal commissioners a few months back and directed the superintending engineers to complete a minimum 90 percent of the works duly furnishing the works completed certificates from the concerned corporators, failing which stern action will be initiated against them.
The mayor interacted with the zonal commissioners and enquired about the works taken up by the deputy commissioners for which a budget of `5 lakh has already been provided.
He pointed out that the works to be taken up at the ward level, were not taken up by all the deputy municipal commissioners and the deputy commissioners of Circle No 3, 8, 10, 13, 15, 16 and 17 have not taken up a single work from the allotted budget, which he said, showed their negligence and directed the zonal commissioners to call for explanations from them.
He also directed the additional commissioner (advertisement) to furnish details of bus-shelters works which are in progress.
He further stated that he noticed several bus-shelters in the twin cities had not been provided with amenities like seating arrangements etc, and private agencies were merely utilising these bus-shelters only for advertising purposes and not for the people.
