VELLORE: The Vellore district, comprising Vellore and Tirupattur Health Unit Districts (HUDs), has received 1,200 doses of vaccines against H1N1 to be administered to the government healthcare professionals. Deputy director of Health Services, Dr Somasundaram said the immunisation drive to protect doctors, hospital staff and paramedical staff will begin on Tuesday.While 200 doses have been handed over to the Tirupattur HUD, 1,000 would be used in the Vellore HUD. The Vellore Government Medical College has been given 100 doses while the Christian Medical College received 75. The surveillance staff attached to 40 PHCs, numbering around 400 health inspectors and Village Health Nurses, would also be covered under the vaccination drive. Some quantity of doses will also be handed over to the staff at the five government hospitals in the Vellore HUD, he added. So far no case of H1N1 has been reported in the district.
