BANGALORE: The High Court on Friday quashed two charges against former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, but found substance in another charge against him. Justice Anand quashed the charges pertaining to the grant of illegal mining licences to Sai Venkateshwara Minerals and renewal of licence to Jantakal Enterprises during his tenure. The judge, however, ordered the Lokayukta police to investigate the issue of granting illegal mining licences to Shree Sai Venkateshwara Mining Company, as it was “confirmed” that Kumaraswamy had approved the lease in favour of the company. Bigamy Petition Against HDK AdjournedThe High Court on Friday directed the person who had accused former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy of committing an offence punishable under IPC by entering into wedlock a second time while being an MP to file all necessary documents to prove his allegation. This is a new charge leveled against Kumaraswamy, who is already facing charges under the PC Act.The complainant, Shashidhar Belaguma, an advocate, alleges that Kumaraswamy has committed the offence of bigamy by marrying actress Radhika while still being legally married to his first wife, Anita. The advocate in his petition has filed an affidavit along with the bio-data of Kumaraswamy while contesting elections, in which he has stated that he is legally married to Anita. He also produced copies of the photographs of Kumaraswamy with his alleged second wife Radhika along with their child. Palm Valley Directed to Maintain Status Quo. The High Court on Friday directed the Palm Valley resort to maintain status quo in constructing a resort, convention hall and other buildings in south Kodagu district. Locals had filed a petition alleging the resort of raising structures on agricultural land, polluting the region.Stay in case against speaker extendedBangalore: The High Court on Friday extended its stay on Lokayukta court proceedings and further probe by police in a case filed against Speaker K G Bopaiah for alleged misuse of funds in a lake development project. When the petition by Bopaiah seeking quashing of the FIR in the case came up before Justice N Ananda, he extended the interim stay to January 25, as the complainant sought time. Earlier, the court had ordered issue of notice to Lokayukta police in the case. Bopaiah had sought quashing of the FIR on the grounds that no prior sanction was sought for doing so from the concerned authorities (in this case, Governor).
