Making light of the warning of the TJAC that ministers from the Telangana region should quit their positions so as to step up pressure on the Congress high command over separate state issue, information and public relations minister DK Aruna on Wednesday made it clear that statehood to the region would not be accorded with the resignations of the Telangana ministers.
“The resignations of legislators and ministers will only bring bypolls and not Telangana. The Congress high command is already working to find a favourable solution for the issue. Hence, Congress leaders should wait for the leadership’s decision,” she said.
Earlier, she held a meeting with the elected representatives of Congress from Mahabubnagar district, from which she hails, at her residence here on Wednesday. During the meeting, Aruna elicited the opinion of the party leaders over the issue. Several leaders felt that the success of the Telangana March had once again proved the desire among people of the region for bifurcation.
They opined that inordinate delay in taking a final decision was making the people of the region furious. They asked the minister to apprise the Congress high command of the present volatile political situation in the region and request the AICC top brass to accord statehood to the region.
Aruna said she would lead a delegation of Congress elected representatives of Mahabubnagar to Delhi on October 8 to persuade the party high command to form the separate state at the earliest.
