MYSORE: Here is a case where officers had to witness the marriage of a minor girl at a mass marriage ceremony organised by the Mysore District Nayaka Yuva Vedike at Jaganmohan Palace on Monday. Suspecting child marriage, Women and Child Welfare Department Officer Chandrappa and Child Development Project Officer Padma, arrived at the venue. When they demanded age proof documents, the parents and organisers resorted to heated arguments with them. Efforts to stop the child marriage went in vain. The organisers succeeded in securing the marriage of the 17-year-old Rekha with Rachappa of K G Koppal, Mysore, ignoring warnings. Padma registered a police complaint. Devaraja Police Inspector Shanthamallappa came and asked the organisers to show the ageproof documents. The organisers produced fake documents which showed Rekha’s age as 21 years. Chandrappa told Express that action will be taken as per law and the couple will not be allowed to live together till the girl becomes a major.
