MK charges government with conspiracy

CHENNAI: Reiterating his allegation that the delimitation of wards for elections to the local bodies was not announced transparently in order to aid the ruling party, DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Wednesday said the AIADMK government wanted to win the polls through conspiracy.In a statement, Karunanidhi said there was confusion among political parties on the category of wards. Now, wards had been reclassified as general, women and reserved on rotation basis. However, the data related to the class of wards is unavailable with parties except the AIADMK, he said.The information on the category of wards was not made known through the media. The district officials were, however, kept in loop by the government. “But, the general public and political parties are not aware of it. Only the AIADMK was provided with the information based on which it announced candidates,” he said.Stating that the government was trying to hold the polls by “beguiling” the people and the parties, he said : “The government is of the view that it could win the polls through conspiracy, just like the unilateral announcement of candidates even without consulting the allies.”
