MMMK demands retrieval of dargah property

TIRUNELVELI: Cadre of the Manithaneya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (MMMK) on Monday staged a protest demanding the retrieval of a Dargah land that was allegedly grabbed by persons who have political clout. MMMK’s district president S A Sheik Mohammed said that three persons — Stalin, Pandian and Muthukumar Pandian — had grabbed around one acre of land that belongs to Nawab Walajah Dargah situated on Cheranmahadevi Road. “The land is in their illegal possession since 2004 and they have forged documents to grab the land. There were also a few buildings on that land and the income arising out of the land is being swindled by the land grabbers,” he charged.“By swindling the land they have illegally benefited to the tune of `1 crore since 2004,” he added. Demanding the Chennai Wakf Board and the State government take immediate action, he said that since no concrete action was taken so far, the land grabbers are at ease.MMMK cadre, led by S A Sheik Mohammed, also submitted a petition to the Collector and demanded that stern action should be taken against the land grabbers. Apart from retrieving the land, the income due to Dargah should also be collected from the land grabbers and criminal proceedings should be initiated, they urged.
