New Delhi: India's contestant at 2006 Miss Globe International, Kanksha Mehta, may have not made it to the headlines when the pageant was held in Butrint in southern Albania on Sunday.
However, the fact that the 19-year-old was among the 113 people aboard the hijacked Turkish airliner on Tuesday has sure won her a ticket to fame.
A total of 42 contestants from across the world participated in Miss Globe International, which is held annually in eastern Mediterranean region.
The event's press spokesperson, Petri Bozo, told ibnlive that Miss Singapore, Miss Malaysia and Miss Philippines were the other contestants on the flight from Albania to Istanbul.
Viviane Lisbeth Ramos Puma from Venezuela bagged the title of Miss Globe International this year. Marian Karian Cabrera, a 24-year-old from Spain, was runner-up and 17-year-old Silvi Skenderaj from Albania took the third place.
"Kanksha Mehta was supposed to be flying to New York. However, she later asked the organisers to book the tickets for the Turkish flight," he added.
Mehta is a classical dancer and her interests include dancing, travelling and shopping. She holds a degree in food and nutritional sciences, fine art and dance.
