Mumbai: Ghazal and bhajan stalwarts Jagjit Singh and Anup Jalota have come together in filmmaker Deepak Vij’s new film titled Maalik Ek.
“We have performed together in many shows. I was composing this song Saare Jagat Mein Ek Hi Tu and the voice that kept drifting into my mind was of Jagjit Singh,” says Jalota.
Apparently Jagjit turned quite emotional whilst recording the song and even refused to be paid for it. Moved by the storyline he then expressed a desire to act in the film.
“Although we have sung in the same show, we have never shared the stage together. I thought of Jagjit for this song as it required a lot of depth. Jagjit’s voice according to me was the only one, which could do justice to the song,” Jalota says.
Made on a modest budget of Rs 3.5 crore, the film, which is about Shirdi Sai Baba and his miracles, boasts of names like Jackie Shroff, who is playing the role of Sai Baba, Divya Dutta, Rohini Hattangadi, and Zarina Wahab.
After a gap of two decades Jalota will also be acting in this film playing the role of Das Ganu, an ardent devotee of Sai Baba. He had earlier appeared in the film Dadagiri as a street singer.
