Punjab: A 20-year old national level handball player reportedly hanged herself to death after she was allegedly denied free hostel facility by Khalsa College authorities in Punjab.

The victim has been identified as Pooja and her body was found hanging in her room on Saturday morning along with a suicide note addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In her suicide letter, Pooja, a BA-II student mentioned that she is ending her life as she was poor and couldn't afford hostel facility. She also blamed the college authorities for denying her the facilities.

Probe revealed that Pooja was finding it difficult to afford Rs 120 per day to reach her college and therefore she requested the college authorities for free accommodation in the college.

The college authorities turned down her plea and investigation officers now believe that this could be one of the reasons the extreme step.

Her father, Prabhu, a vegetable vendor, said, "When she went back to the hostel after the summer holidays, the teacher said that the girls won't be staying there. Those who paid the fee were allowed to stay in the college hostel. But my daughter was denied. We want our Prime Minister to intervene in to the matter".

Police have registered a case of abatement to suicide.
