Kolkata: The Rs 2,325 crore new integrated terminal building of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata would be officially operational with an inaugural Air India flight to London via Delhi on the patriot's birth anniversary on Wedneday. "The world class infrastructure in civil aviation set up in eastern India will be operational with this inaugural flight as a symbol of honour to Netaji," Director of Airports Authority of India BP Sharma said on Tuesday.
Offices of airlines and service providers would shift to the new terminal from tomorrow with the process to be completed by March 31 to make it fully operational, Sharma said.
The inaugural AI-021 flight on the Kolkata-Delhi-London sector would take off at 10:00 am on Wednesday, airlines sources said. The AAI has installed an 18-feet-high bronze statue of Netaji which was unveiled by President Pranab Mukherjee, who also inaugurated the new terminal on Sunday.
The nearly 1.9 lakh square metre new terminal would be capable of handling 20 million passengers, 16 million in domestic and four million international, annually.
