ANANTAPUR: A Nigerian national was arrested on Friday for cheating a person of Rs10 lakh, by promising a lottery prize of Rs 5 crore.Giving details of the case to mediapersons, Anantapur officer on special duty D Saisekhar said Suresh, who runs a electrical shop, received an SMS on his mobile on August 9 about being selected for the Cococola lottery prize of 50,000 GB pounds (`5 crore). He was asked to pay some money towards handling charges to get the money.“Believing the message to be true, Suresh initially sent `14,000 toward customs, `45,000 to the ICICI Bank account of one Mark Williams towards money transfer charges and other such charges. In all he sent `10 lakh towards getting the prize money,” police said. When another message came asking for another `25 lakh to be deposited in the name of Mark Williams, Suresh realised he had been duped and sent a message on the number demanding back his money.Police said another message came to him that an agent of the company would bring him the money but he had to pay `2 lakh for transport charges.“Suresh agreed to the condition but decided to inform the police, who went along with him. When the agent, a Nigerian called Syrez Berak met Suresh, he took some papers and cleaned them with some chemical which turned them into notes. However, he accidentally broke the chemical bottle and tried to get away stating the chemical is only available in Bangalore,” Saisekhar said. That is when Suresh alerted the police who managed to nab the person. On interrogation, police found Berak did not have a valid visa or passport.Police also seized the rented car in which the Nigerian national came and booked a cheating case.
