No new communication from Maoists: Odisha
The Odisha government is yet to decide on the fresh demands of the Maoists to release five more Naxals.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has said that it is facilitating the release of the 27 prisoners, demanded by two Maoist groups, within the legal framework. Odisha Home Secretary U N Behera on Tuesday said that the government had not received any fresh communication from the Maoists after the deadlines last issued by them.

The Home Secretary also said that the nothing had been decided by the government on the fresh demands of the Maoists for the release of five more Naxals, adding that the legal aspects of their cases were being examined.

Referring to the issue of the release of Italian national Paolo Bosusco, he said, "We hope the joint statement of two Naxal-appointed mediators and government has reached Sabyasachi Panda by now for the release of the Italian hostage."

This came hours after the Odisha government on Tuesday released Subhashree Panda, the wife of Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, who was arrested and jailed in 2010 in connection with an encounter case.

The release of the Maoist leader's wife came amidst the former's ultimatum to the Odisha government to release seven Naxal leaders in exchange for the release of the abducted Italian national, Paolo Bosusco.
