Guwahati: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday announced that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) would probe the attack on Adivasis by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit) (NDFB (S)) on Tuesday evening and the reprisals in which 78 were killed. The Home Minister also ruled out any talks with NDFB (S).
Talking to mediapersons in Guwahati on Thursday, Singh said, "We will not hold talks with any terror outfits. There is no dialogue possible with NDFB. There will be no talks with such groups."
The Home Minister said Bhutan and Burma are ready to cooperate with India in tackling terror outfits.
Regarding the relief to the victims, Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already announced ex gratia for the victims. Besides, the Centre has dispatched 50 companies of CAPFs to Assam.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh had reached Guwahati on Wednesday to take stock of the situation arising out of violence in Assam. A high alert has been issued in the state after separate incidents of violence since Tuesday evening. While 62 people were killed by Bodo militants on Tuesday, three adivasis were killed in police firing at Sonitpur and three Bodo villagers were killed by Adivasi villagers in Chirang on Wednesday. Curfew has been clamped in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur to avert any untoward incident.
A series of attacks at four places in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts shook Assam on Tuesday night. Police said that the attack was unleashed by heavily armed militants belonging to the Songbijit faction of NDFB which is opposed to peace talks. The incident site is located near the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh border.
