Noted film critic Chidananda Dasgupta dead
Chidananda, along with Satyajit Ray and Hari Sadhan Dasgupta, founded the Calcutta Film Society.

Kolkata: Chidananda Dasgupta, noted film critic and father of renowned actor-director Aparna Sen, died here last night following brief illness.

He was 89 and predeceased by his wife two years ago. He was suffering from acute broncho pneumonia and Parkinson's disease, doctors attending on him said.

Aparna, who was away in the United States, would come here tomorrow to do the final rites. Born in 1922, Chidananda, along with Satyajit Ray and Hari Sadhan Dasgupta, founded the Calcutta Film Society.

He also directed a few films including 'Amodini' and 'Bilet Pherot'. His granddaughter Konkona Sensharma is also an award winning actress. Dasgupta's body is being kept at a mortuary in the city.
