BHUBANESWAR: The Opposition - Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) - on Wednesday castigated the State Government for bringing out advertisements in newspapers last week, announcing different schemes.Opposition leader Bhupinder Singh alleged that the advertisements had been published keeping an eye on panchayat election. The number of advertisements literally transformed it into a panchayat election week aimed at currying favour with the voters for the benefit of the ruling BJD, he said, adding that the advertisements carrying misleading information on various schemes are confusing the people.Singh further alleged that the Government has no intention to make people aware of the welfare schemes through these advertisements. On the other hand, the Government is yet to finalise the action plan for the next year on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is the chairman of the State-level committee which finalises the action plan, he added.Singh said lakhs of rupees had been spent by the Government on advertisements of these schemes in the last one week.BJP Legislature Party (BJPLP) leader KV Singhdeo wanted to know whether there was any budget provision for such advertisements in newspapers. He said that in the main budget placed in the House in March-April, 2011 there was no provision for this. He wanted to know from which source the Government will pay such huge advertisement bills.
