TIRUPUR: Heavy rains in the last three days have affected normal life in many parts of the district. Some of the houses at Palayakadu, Veerapandi, JJ Nagar and Krishna Nagar in the corporation limits were inundated. Motorists had a hard time negotiating the Palladam Road, Dharapuram Road and Kangeyam Road. At Udumalpet, many acres of paddy fields got submerged as water from the Kallapuram sand canal entered them. The canal, which gets water from Amaravathi dam, had breached at Poochimedu area.The copra production in and around Kangeyam has been affected for the last one week due to continuous rains. With the process of drying coconut kernel hit, the coconut oil production in many of the units in Kangeyam was affected. On an average, the Tirupur district received 36.19 mm rainfall from 8 pm on Tuesday to 8 am on Wednesday.
