A special committee has been formed by the Vellore Corporation to look into the increasing number of complaints of unauthorised water tapping and illegal water connections.
The committee will inspect residences, hotels and commercial establishments to check for violations.
Corporation Commissioner M Seeni Ajmal Khan said, “Beginning August 18, the committee will conduct surprise checks at buildings during weekends and holidays.
If water tapping is detected, the owner of the building will be fined and appropriate action taken.”
“Since more complaints had been received from Zone II-Sathuvachari, the committee will begin checks from Sathuvachari.
The committee will consist of field staff from the other three zones. This will help eliminate illegal water tapping,” Khan added.
