KOCHI: Former Supreme Court judge Justice V R Krishna Iyer has urged the Prime Minister to take necessary measures to reduce the petrol price hike. In a statement issued here, he said, “The price hike is a severe blow to the poor and indigent who can barely afford even the current petrol price.”“Consequently, every fundamental right will adversely suffer as a result of this measure. The cost of living, travel and every other dimension of life will suffer a shock by your audacious measure of magnifying the fuel price by `7.54, since it is too high a burden to be borne.“I hope that you will learn your lesson in the next election when people in their indignant and downtrodden condition will put you in your proper place for this reckless aggravation of oil price,” he said.Justice Iyer said that the authorities must think of other creative ways of reducing the consumption of petrol and energy. He pointed out that creative research in solar energy and tidal power can be done.
