THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress (B) leader and former Minister R Balakrishna Pillai was moved out of the Central Prison here and admitted to a private hospital here on Friday. Pillai was moved out of the prison after the State Government issued a special order on an application filed before the Prisons authority by his daughter Bindu.  Pillai had returned to the prison on Thursday after completing his parole, which he availed of citing medical reasons. Bindu, in her application, stated that her father was suffering from terminal illness and needed expert medical care. The Prison authorities had forwarded the application to the Home Department for taking a decision on the issue.  The State Government, in turn, issued a special order to admit Pillai to a private hospital as the law does not permit a convict to seek treatment in any hospital other than the Government Medical College.  Pillai is currently undergoing rigorous imprisonment of one year after being convicted by the Supreme Court in the Idamalayar graft case. As of now, he had already availed of 75 days of parole, including 45 days of emergency parole, within the first three months of his sentence.  Pillai’s sentence is likely to extend in proportion to the number of days he will stay outside the prison.
