KOCHI: The District Sanitation Committee has suggested a comprehensive plan to set up biogas units in each household to tackle issues related to solid waste management. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held here on Tuesday in connection with the Total Sanitation Programme.
The meeting was presided by district panchayat vicepresident Bindhu George. The meeting also evaluated the micro projects for solid waste management worth Rs 4.8 lakh which are in various stages of implementation.

The district panchayat has so far constructed biogas plants at 48 government schools during the last financial year.

The committee will also organise awareness campaigns throughout the district. The district panchayat will also take initiatives to conduct awareness on scientific disposal of plastic waste.
