CHENNAI: Strongly condemning the cases of land grab slapped on his partymen, DMK president M Karunanidhi on Friday reiterated that the government's action on complaints, which he dubbed as acts of vendetta, were concocted.
In a statement here, Karunanidhi recalled several incidents from the past and alleged that it was a typical trait of Jayalalithaa to "wreak vengeance".The arrest of the Kanchi Sankaracharyas, and the cases of narcotics possession against V N Sudhakaran and a former employee of the MGR memorial were cited as "instances of abuse of power" by Karunanidhi. He pointed to his own midnight arrest in 2001, besides those of former MP Tiruporur Parasuraman, veteran AIADMK functionary Tamaraikani and former MLA Purasai Renganathan.

Elaborating on the charge, he said Kodaikanal municipal chief Mohammed Ibrahim of the DMK was arrested swiftly following a charge of land grab. However, the complainant's father told the police and the court that the land transaction was a genuine case of sale, to which he had agreed, Karunanidhi claimed quoting reports in a section of the media.

"This proves that Jayalalithaa is accustomed to slapping false cases. Through this, she derives pleasure."
