KANCHEEPURAM: Walajabad police have taken an engineering student into custody after they recovered a country-made single-bullet pistol from his rented house on Saturday.The Mechanical Engineering student Deepak Nayak, who hails from Ranchi in Jharkhand, was staying in a rented tenement on Valampuri Vinayagar Street in Walajabad. His roommate Sanjay Yadav, another first-year student, has also been taken in for questioning.Investigations revealed that the seized revolver loaded with a live bullet belonged to Mayuresh Kumar, another north Indian student, currently believed to be enrolled in Ayyappa Engineering College. Mayuresh stayed at the college hostel, but as fate would have it, he opted to stay with Deepak-Sanjay duo for the past one week. It was the house owner Kannan, who during one of his routine visits, happened to notice the ‘stranger’ Mayuresh there, as he was cleaning his revolver, according to his statement to the local police.R Thirugnananm, DIG, Kancheepuram Range, visited the police station around 8.15 pm and made formal enquiries with both Deepak Nayak and Sanjay Yadav.
