BHUBANESWAR: The Assembly on Monday witnessed a slanging match between Congress Chief Whip Prasad Harichandan and former Agriculture minister Pradip Maharathi. The war of words was on the admissibility of an adjournment motion notice on growing crimes against women in the State. Countering the report of the Crime Branch that there was no rape of the Pipili victim, Harichandan said the report of AIIMS Board in the case had a different view. The report did not rule out rape of the victim, he said. Maharathi, who was countering Harichandan throughout his speech, was heard saying that the member would have to pay a heavy price if there is an attempt to defame Pipili. Soon after there were noisy scenes as the Congress members took strong exception to such a threat. Harichandan, however, said he was not going to be cowed down by such threats. “If the member is trying to threaten me inside the House in such a manner, you can imagine what he is doing outside,” the Congress member said and announced that he is ready to pay any price to tell the truth. BJD’s Bishnu Das, who was presiding over the House then, announced that statements of both the members would be examined.
