It was difficult to estimate whether it was a sudden burst of emotions or a pre-planned gimmicky act when TP Aggarwal, current President of IMPPA (Indian Motion Pictures’ Producers Association) suddenly declared in front of the waiting media that soon, he would be committing suicide.
Though he kept singing the same tune for the next fifteen minutes at a press conference on Saturday evening that was called by a certain section of IMPPA denying any involvement of their president with the underworld , he however soon admitted he was seized by “a momentary lapse of reason” and would not be proceeding with the suicide attempt.
Protesting against a recent news report that claimed that Aggarwal had underworld links including those with gangster Ravi Pujari, several members of IMPPA came down heavily on Sushma Shiromanee, Vice President of IMPPA accusing her of several misdeeds committed against the President and fellow members.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said, “We have approached RR Patil and have been assured that the upcoming IMPPA elections will be conducted in a proper manner.”
Shiromanee had earlier alleged that gangster Pujari had offered her money to not compete in the next IMPPA election.
Criticising Shiromanee, Pandit added, “It is for the first time in the history that a gangster is offering money to someone to step down. Generally, he would just kill the person.”
Several of the assembled members expressed their disbelief to the media that an educationist like Aggarwal would be involved with a gangster.
Aggarwal responded by saying, “Shiromanee was the one who got me to IMPPA. I never wanted to be a part of all this. She has been misled by other people.” He added, “If this matter is not resolved, and my name is not cleared, I will commit suicide. Am I a gangster?”
However, after some pleading from his fellow members, Aggarwal admitted, “I will not commit suicide, but if my name is not cleared, I will not contest the election. I might even leave Bollywood.”
